And so, we have finished reading Pygmalion in class. It was a great opportunity to get to watch Pygmalion the movie after reading the play. I was able to recall some of the lines while watching and understand the plot well. For me, the slight change in the plot at the end of the movie had given me a clearer reason of why the play is 'A Romance in 5 Acts'. Besides that, I get to know the actual sounds which Eliza had made. The movie was able to give me a better understanding of the play, because I get to see everything written in the text being brought to actions. The actors in the movie managed to portray the characters described in the play. The scene which I like the most is the part when Eliza met Higgins for the first time. Higgins imitated the way that Eliza speaks, and he managed to repeat the lines with the exact pronunciation as hers. It was quite a pity that our class brought the incomplete version of the text. So, while reading the play in class, there are some missing scenes. Only later, we managed to get the unabridged copy of the play. But this does not help much because we have to read the missing scenes in the earlier parts of the play on our own. Thus, this play was a helpful way in refreshing the sequence of events in the play i.e. what event happens after each scene. It was a classic black and white movie, yet I enjoyed watching it.

I have the same idea as Syamimi according to the movie “Pygmalion”. Well, at first I thought this could be a boring movie because it is black-and-white. However, as the story begins, I start to enjoy it and I cannot miss anything until the end.
The movie really helps me a lot in understanding of the text that we have gone through in class. However, there are some differences in the movie as compare to the text. It doesn’t matter because I have read and understand the text. The movie also helps me in getting a clearer view about the appearance and the personality of the characters such as Eliza, Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering. By only reading the text, I have no idea how Eliza made the sound that she always make. However, as stated by Syamimi, we can get to know the actual sound Eliza made.
Besides helping us understand the play, I also enjoy watching the movie.

Yes..it is a great opportunity to watch Pygmalion the movie after reading the play. First it is because they did not change anything from the play. Even the script is definitely taken from the play and I agree with Syamimi when she said that we were able to recall some of the lines, ok I would not say some but most of the lines while watching the movie. Even though it is a black and white movie, I just really enjoy watching it compared to “Shakespeare Wallah”. The movie also has help us a lot in gaining better understanding of the whole play,Pygmalion because we can see the real setting of the play.
If you wanted to hear the real sound Eliza made, watch My Fair Lady. Hehehe. Yes, I'm still promoting My Fair Lady. It is waaaaaaaaay better than Pgymalion the movie. If it's not, I'll buy you a McDonald's sundae. Higgins was portrayed better in My Fair Lady, as well as Eliza. The Eliza in My Fair Lady was more convincing than the one in Pygmalion. Go watch My Fair Lady! :)
